The Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) were established in response to the increasing number and complexity of social issues affecting families and children such as poverty, family restructuring, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and domestic and youth violence. Recognizing that these challenges impact students' ability to learn and thrive, the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) of 1990 initiated the creation of FRYSCs to provide holistic support for children, youth, and their families.
The goal of the FRYSCs is to bridge the gap between education and human services by offering a range of programs and resources. These services include health and social services, family engagement, crisis intervention, and youth development ensuring that students are supported not just academically but in all aspects of their well-being.
By working together with schools, parents, and community agencies, the FRYSCs play a crucial role in creating a collaborative environment where students can overcome barriers to education and success. The focus on joint provision of services reflects the need for an integrated approach to addressing the multifaceted issues that child and their families face in today's society.
Currently there are 961 centers in Kentucky serving over 600,000 students... Whatever it takes!
FRYSC Mission Statement: To enhance students' ability to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote:
- Early learning and successful transition to school;
- Academic achievement and well-being; and
- Graduation and transition into adult life.
