NES Receives Technology Grant

Get One to One with STEM!

It is OUR time for students to get one to one with STEM, thanks to the hard work of Northern Elementary teacher, Mrs. Tina Record.  Mrs. Record wrote and submitted a KySTE grant and was awarded $20,798 for Northern Elementary!  This project will enhance infusion of science, engineering, math and technology to increase interest in STEM lessons, knowledge of technology and technology use among fourth grade students.  It will promote educational excellence in all STEM areas, provide STEM based instruction/assessment, and offer immediate feedback/reteaching, engaging students in technology-based tactile, visual and auditory instruction.  Students will also utilize the devices during reading and writing.

This project will support the transition to Next Generation Science Standards with technology for hands-on science experiments and engineering design.  All instructional strategies will be affected by this project as the STEM-based lessons and activities will be incorporated on a daily basis to all 100 fourth grade students.  Teachers will use best practices providing students with learning experiences to build inquiry and discovery, critical thinking and a learning climate that supports teamwork and high expectations.

The good news about this grant... The grant funds will purchase one hundred devices and cases!  Thank you for your dedication and congratulations to Mrs. Record!

NES rocked the KPREP Test!!

Northern Elementary School is pleased to announce our results from the Spring 2014-15 Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress (KPREP) test.

Our overall index, which combines scores from Grades 3, 4, and 5 and includes assessments in Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Writing, was 71.9. This is an improvement from 65 last year.

This score put our school at the 80th percentile and we are rated as a Proficient and Progressing school.

(We were actually only 3.2 points away from classification as a Distinguished School, which is the highest level of recognition for KPREP scores!).

Test scores are only one small snapshot of “what makes a good school.” We already knew that our students, teachers and parents are GREAT, and the KPREP scores simply reaffirm that.

Please join us in congratulating your children and our teachers on a job well done. Thanks for all you do to support our school!
