Class of 2013 ~ Commencement Dates Announced Class of 2013 ~ Commencement Dates Announced

Graduation dates have been set !  The Class of 2013 Commencement will be Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the PHS gymnasium.  Admission by ticket only.  For guests' convenience, shuttle buses will be available from Southern Elementary & Sharp Middle School beginning at 5:45 p.m. and running continuously until 6:45 p.m.  Shuttle services will drop off guests at the gymnasium doors and deliver guests back to the respective locations.  In addition, this year there will be a drop-off  location designated on the bus-loop for those wishing to drop off guests and then go park. Because the shuttle buses will be loading & unloading via the bus loop,  those needing to drop someone off should do so in a timely manner and proceed back to parking area.

The Pendleton County Education Foundation is pleased to announce the 2013 recipients of the Sharp Family Trust awards.  These students will be receiving $6,000 each year during their four years of college undergraduate study for a total of $24,000:

Congratulations to the 2013 Phillip A. Sharp Middle School KUNA delegation for taking the YMCA top honor of "Outstanding Country" for their representation of Greece during Global Village, International Stage, Pro/Con Debate, Proposal Presentation, and Security Council.


LPC Meeting Dates Announced

Pendleton County Schools will hold the following Local Planning Committee meetings:

  • LPC Meeting #2 preceded by a public forum on March 4, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at Southern Elementary
  • LPC #3 preceded by a public forum on March 18, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at Northern Elementary
  • District Facility Plan Draft to Board of Education – March 21, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in Pendleton High School Auditorium
  • Public Hearing Meeting – April 9, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Pendleton High School Library

Pendleton County 109 Board Announces Scholarships for Adult Students

 The Pendleton County 109 Solid Waste Management Board is happy to announce the 5th year in offering $500.00 Scholarships that will be awarded to a non-traditional Adult student May 2013.  A Non-traditional student is an adult that is currently attending college or plans to attend college during the fall 2013 semester.  Although, the 109 Board continues to support high school scholarships, the 109 Board wants to support adults returning to college.GED graduates are encouraged to apply. Previous recipients are not eligible to reapply.  The criteria and applications are available through the local Adult Education Office at 654-3325 Ext. 2601. The deadline for submitting this scholarship is April 26, 2013

Congratulations to PHS student, Ian West, who has been accepted to the WKU Gatton Academy!!   Ian, the son of David & Andrea West, officially accepted  last week to this prestigious program.  Good luck and way to go, Ian!

Board Recognizes NKy & State Select Band Board Recognizes NKy & State Select Band

Congratulations to the following students who auditioned & were selected for the Northern Kentucky Select Band:  Sharp Middle students, Tommy Mounts, Kennedy Money, Andrew Hicks, & Rebecca Ammerman; and PHS students, Morgan Bay, Spencer Bay, Julia Holland, Mariah Moore, and Keith Steele. Spencer Bay was selected for the Wind Ensemble and the other students were selected for the Symphony Band.  Congratulations!!

Special congratulations to Spencer Bay who was selected to the Kentucky All-State Symphonic Band, based on his audition. Spencer is 3rd chair in the top band in the state. Way to go, Spencer!


PCS Receives Toyota Grant PCS Receives Toyota Grant

Pendleton Co. Schools is proud to announce the award of a grant from Toyota in the amount of $10,000 to be used for the purchase of I-pads for classrooms. Thank you to Northern Elementary teachers, Tina Record & Laura Caudill,  for their work on the grant application and to the Peluso Family for making the school aware of this grant program.  Toyoto was present at the February 28 board meeting to make the presentation of the $10,000 check. 


SMS Teacher Named NKEA Teacher of the Year SMS Teacher Named NKEA Teacher of the Year

CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Cayeann Cowan, SMS teacher who was named NKEA Teacher of the Year Award. Ms. Louise Steidel, from the NKEA (Northern Kentucky Education Association) Board of Directors, a KEA-Retired Member who serves on the NKEA Teacher of the Year Committee, presented the award to Ms. Cowan, which included a personalized glass trophy, a $500 check, and also a plaque engraved plaque that will remain in the KEA-Northern Kentucky Office in Hebron and will also contain the name of future winners.


PCS Now Has Overdrive Library eBook Lending PCS Now Has Overdrive Library eBook Lending

Pendleton County Schools is now a part of the Overdrive Library e-Book Lending network.  The system, available since January 29, is available 24/7, and requires a library card and a password.  Two books may be checked out for one week at a time, and they may be accessed through any eReader, tablet, or iOS or Windows device, including SmartPhones.  To log into the system, access Mrs. Carolyn Reid’s teacher webpage through Pendleton High School’s or Sharp Middle School’s sites, or access through Mrs. Theresa Turner’s teacher webpage through one of the elementary schools’ sites, then click on “Overdrive.”  Please contact Mrs. Reid with any issues.

Northern Elementary’s Choir and Mallet Madness will be performing at Florence Mall on March 27th at 10:00 am. Please come out to the concert and support our talented students! We are very excited to get to perform as part of Music in Our Schools Month.

In addition to our performance, we are very excited about the Facebook competition. If we get the most votes for NES on the Florence Mall facebook page, our music program could win $500!!!

Each year school districts from across Kentucky are invited to design a banner for display at the annual Kentucky School Boards Association Conference.  This year Southern Elementary designed the district's banner for the 77th Annual KSBA Conference with the theme "Kentucky Public Schools--Taking the Next Step".  Good job, Ms. Lori Kelley and art students.

The PBIS Sharp Middle School team is pleased to announce our first "Showing Off Sharp" night on Thursday, March 28th from 5-8.  This evening will be packed with art displays, presentations, and athletic events including a student vs. faculty game. Miss Kentucky Jessica Casebolt heard of PCHS’s Senior Wildcat Basketball Player, Garrett Appleman’s battle with heart issues this current season and wanted to share in his senior night as Pendleton County Wildcats took on Bourbon County at PCHS on Monday, Feb 11, to educate about Heart Health as well as thank PCHS for the early detection.

Congratulations to Jenna Kelsch O'Hara & David Tackett who were inducted into the Class of 2012 Hall of Fame for the 10th Region.  Jenna was a star point guard for the PHS Ladycats & later went on to play at the collegiate level at Thomas More.  David Tackett, former PCS teacher & administrator, has been a Ladycat coach, fan, and supporter at all levels.  They were honored at the February 9 Ladycat basketball game.

Monroe Joins the 2000-Club Monroe Joins the 2000-Club

Congratulation to PHS Wildcat, Mason Monroe, who scored his 2000th point Friday, January 25, 2013 against Harrison County on the PHS hardwood.  This puts him the second all-time Wildcat scorer behind Talbert Turner, Jr. (Class of 1984) who has over 3100 high school career points.  Way to go, Mason!


South FRYSC Receives Walmart Grant! South FRYSC Receives Walmart Grant!

Walmart is a global company, but gives back locally – right in the neighborhoods where we live and work. Through the Local Giving Program, Walmart stores, Sam's Clubs and Logistics facilities help support the needs of their communities by providing Community Grants to local organizations.  Back in September, South FRYSC Family Advocate, Jodi Chaplin-Ramey, submitted the grant request for the Weekend Snack-Pack Program.  The Walmart Foundation and the Walmart store, Alexandria, KY, are proud to announce that the South Family Resource Youth Service Center has been selected to receive one of these grants - a $3,000 grant!!  Congratulations to Ms. Kelly Staten, SFRYSC Director, & Ms. Jodi Chaplin-Ramey on receiving this grant.  The Resource Centers of Pendleton County Schools are dedicated to  creating opportunities so the people of our community can live better.

Congratulations to the Pendleton County High School CheerCats--10th Region Small Division Champs!  Also congratulations to Brittany Baumgartner who was one of the recipients of the Outstanding Cheerleader Scholarship.  The CheerCats will be competing January 26 at WKU in the state competition.  Congratulations & Good Luck!
